Danjugan Island is a marine reserve and a sanctuary of marine life that will never leave us indifferent.

Conservation in the Philippines is almost always an uphill climb against him because we often meet with obstacles of local politicians and chief executives. Though still plagued by many problems, the island shows how conservation should be done in this country when, in microcosm, a little gem in the Sulu Sea which is saved for the enjoyment of future generations.

Located in the Sulu Sea, 3 km west of Negros Occidental, Danjugan the island (1.5 km per 0.5 km) rises steeply to 80 meters and is covered with tropical rainforest – home to a pair of nesting sea eagles, rare birds, huge coconut crabs, fruit bats, as well as many species of insects and other animals struggling to survive.

The island has five lakes, three gaps are completely closed and the other two that are flooded at high tide. All are inhabited by corals and reef fish species.

Danjugan is bordered by sea turtle nesting beaches and surrounded by many coral reefs.

The PRRCFI (Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation Inc.) gave the island the Best Managed Reef Award 2001 (best coral consevado) the protection of the exceptional richness of coral reefs surrounding Danjugan.
