If a Filipino in a restaurant or club invites you to sit or offers food, it is considered polite to refuse the invitation the first time. If the offer comes back, have a seat and enjoy the hospitality.

Note that the Filipino culture is very relaxed when it comes to invitations and punctuality. In all likelihood, a local can accept an invitation to dinner without realizing that this was his true intention. Even if you receive a clear “yes”, it is a good idea to call back and confirm whether or not the guest is attending. As a general rule, the third invitation is considered very seriously.

When dining in public is considered polite to keep your hands above the table at all times. Not to appear greedy, Filipinos leave a small amount of food on your plate when you have finished. You should place your spoon and fork on the plate to indicate you have finished.

When traveling through the Philippines, you can be sure that you will find a turo turo (literally translated as “dot-dot”). As expected due to the counter of these places as cafes and just point the finger food you want to order.

Customs

The import and export of the following items are prohibited: pornography, illegal drugs and firearms. In addition, visitors are not allowed to take with certain objects of nature outside the country, including turtle shells, snakeskin, orchids, corals and mussels.

Foreign currency may be transported across the border, as long as the amount withdrawn does not exceed the amount that is entered into the country. Everyone entering the Philippines must fill out a form to declare the goods it brings to the country. Each person may import the following duty-free items: two liters of alcohol, two cans of snuff (cigarettes or 200) and various personal effects.

Visas

Because the regulations for visa change quite often, tourists are advised to consult their nearest Philippine embassy on the latest requirements for obtaining a tourist visa before you travel. The normal tourist visas are issued on arrival and allow a maximum stay of 21 days. However, tourist visas for up to 59 days can usually be obtained from Philippine embassies or consulates abroad.

If you require a long stay visa, ensure that the customs officer puts the correct stamp in your passport or you will end up with a 21 days despite having one long stay. All visitors are required to have a passport with at least six months validity. Visa extensions are relatively easy to obtain, and extension requests may be submitted at any Immigration Office. Express extensions are processed within one business day, but if not, the process can take up to a week.

Tourist Information can be obtained online at: http://www.tourism.gov.ph/Pages/default.aspx, or in any of the tourist information offices in the Philippines. There is a helpful tourist information center located on the ground floor of the DOT in TM Kalaw Street in Manila. Phone: +63 2524 2384.

The Tagalog (sometimes also called Filipino) is the official language of the Philippines. English has a status of second official language and is widely spoken in varying degrees across the country.

There are numerous dialects and minority languages spoken in the 7,000 islands. In many cases, local people use multiple dialects in day to day depending on who you are dealing.

Exchange / ATMs

Travelers should maintain a cash reserve in the form of a small amount of weight as many shops refuse to change large bills. Of course, to get that amount of notes can be difficult. While ATMs are well placed in all tourist destinations are often disconnected or not working. It is advisable to carry a cash reserve of U.S. dollars, which are accepted almost everywhere. Travellers checks are sometimes difficult to exchange.

When you need to exchange currency, the street people who change currency offer better rates than banks, although some of them are unreliable. Better to ask where to find the area of the forex trader confidence. Credit cards are accepted at most large hotels and restaurants, and many banks will accept cash advances with credit cards.

One of the best questions to ask yourself prior to deciding where you would like to take your next vacation would be is it safe to travel to Cancun. If safety is a bit concern that you are having, you have probably been reading a lot of the news. There is a lot of pressure within the media to get as many clicks as possible on their news stories. Bringing in web traffic is the only way that they will be able to sell advertisements to companies. These companies provide them with money that the organization is then able to use to increase their profits. When you keep in mind the need to remain profitable, it becomes clear that not everything you see on the news is based on fact alone. Remember that when you look at the website of any organization, they are interested in getting traffic in the form of more clicks. Proven research has demonstrated that people respond better to negative stories than those that have a positive point of view. The result of this is the presentation that you have probably noticed within the media. Next time you read a negative story about this area, you may want to keep this in mind.

There are many people that live here every day, they work for a living and have large families. These people do not want anything to happen to the people they love. However, they choose to stay here because they believe the answer to the question is it safe to travel to Cancun is yes. Asking the question is it safe to travel to the United States may have a different answer depending on the area that you are thinking about. New York, Chicago and Washington are just a few examples of areas that have very high crime rates. In fact, when you compare the rates of crime in these areas to Cancun, you would be able to see that you are going to be safer by traveling here. There is no telling what would happen to you when you step outside in the morning. However, you still choose to get up and do what it takes in order to get ready for work. Traveling is not possible without putting yourself in a new environment. However, this area of Mexico will not cause you to experience any additional concern when it comes to your safety.

In all the major cities in the Philippines will find a complete medical facilities. Although the main government-run hospitals are typically adequate to meet the needs of travelers, some visitors may prefer to opt for private clinics, especially when traveling in less developed regions. Pharmacies are usually completely well stocked and well located around most tourist areas.

It is advisable to consult your doctor and make sure your standard vaccinations are still effective before traveling to the Philippines. Malaria and tuberculosis are problematic in rural areas, although most travelers are not in these regions. Use caution when visiting remote areas, and consider taking malaria tablets if you plan to spend considerable time trekking through the jungle.

For practical purposes, drink only bottled water. While tap water may be safe in large metropolitan areas, there is no guarantee. Bottled water is widely available and inexpensive, so you avoid the unnecessary risk of drinking tap water. Beware of bottled water sold by vendors on the roads.

In many cases, these local fill bottles with tap water and then reseal them. The safest method for fresh produce is to buy products that have a good hard crust with which you can cut and peel it before eating.

Any person visiting the Philippines should be aware that some areas have a higher risk of terrorist attacks and other conflicts that may pose give something to consider even a real threat to anyone who visit. Occasionally jump in Mindanao skirmishes between Abu Sayyaf terrorists and military groups.

The use of illegal drugs is not tolerated in the Philippines and the harsh penalties ranging from long stays in prison to execution. Corruption affects the legal system, so it is advisable brought a lawyer if you have to visit the police station to report a crime. Even its embassy can be powerless to provide effective assistance if he becomes a victim of crime.

Transportation options are generally safe, despite the recent international concern about accidents with world famous people that have scared some travelers. In general, buses and busiest air routes are operated by drivers and competent pilots with modern vehicles. The biggest problem for tourists are the tricks and scams.

Keep very close and secure your belongings in public areas and do not bring anything of value that is not necessary. Beware of scammers who say they have met before, and make it clear that you do not leave your drink unattended when visiting a club or a bar.

Beware of “policemen” who ask to check your wallet to see if you have counterfeit money, since it most likely will not be real policemen. Instead, the scammers use this trick to replace part of their tickets with counterfeit coins.

When you book hotels, there are certain questions you should ask to avoid any surprises. If you plan on driving to a hotel in a European city, be sure to ask about parking. Not all hotels have parking available, many have arrangements with private lots that may not be very close to the hotel. If you’re staying in a historic building in a city centre, there many be no parking anywhere near our hotel as the hotel building may pre-date automobiles.

The same goes for lifts. Hotels in historic buildings, no matter what the rooms cost, may not have lifts. There simply is no way to add a mechanical lift to old stone buildings. If you’re booking a hotel room on the third floor of a hotel without a lift by the end of the week, you can expect a really intense workout.

When you book hotels in Europe and you’re from North America, understand what an ensuite bath is. The concetp of not having a bathroom in every hotel room in every city is something foreign to people from the United states and Canada who, every year, accidentally book hotel rooms with shared bathrooms because they never imagine that such hotels exist. It pays to ask questions before booking any accommodation, even if you think you are being a pain to the hotel staff. It is certainly better to ask extra questions than to settle for less that you expected.

At 5tripsmaker, your wishes are their command. Whatever type of accommodation you need, they will find you the best price available. Many people put too much time and effort into planning their holiday. Once they are assured of getting the best price fr a hotel, they can sit back and start planning all of the fun things they can do once they arrive. This is the best part of holiday planning, the planning of activities. No one really enjoys searching for hotels or booking flights but most people like planning their sightseeing agenda and planning where they will dine each night.
